ABSTRACT
The Olympiad movement in modern education takes certain positions, being a recognized form of quality control of education. An important condition for organizing such events is the interest of the participants and the achievability of the tasks set for them. The article describes the state and prospects of school astronomical education according to the standards of the second generation. The formation of cognitive interest in the field of astronomy and space technologies is inextricably linked with the formation of a natural science picture of the world and Polytechnic education. Astronomy expands and deepens physical knowledge, demonstrating its universality and versality, it is able to demonstrate how far our knowledge is spread on the space-time scale. One of the ways to increase interest in astronomy is to organize and hold a regional distance astronomy Olympiad. The features of conducting and preparing for participation in remote competitions in astronomy are considered. Examples of Olympiad tasks and criteria for their evaluation are given. The article describes the experience of organizing a remote regional astronomy Olympiad "ZODIAC" for schoolchildren and students.

ABSTRACT
The topic of progress is one of the key in both natural sciences and the humanities. The attitude towards the category of progress throughout history has evolved markedly towards increased criticism and skepticism. The article is devoted to the perception of the idea of progress by the Russian public at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries. The author draws in detail to understanding the topic of progress by the famous scientist D.I. Mendeleev and other contemporaries, drawing parallels between the natural sciences and the humanitarian worldview of contemporaries. The researcher concludes that the progress, largely associated with Westernization, has become a powerful cultural and worldview challenge for Russians at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The progressive public realized that the optimal response of Russia to this challenge of our time was to preserve the cultural and civilizational foundations in the process of mastering innovations and familiarizing ourselves with the achievements of technological progress, that must be taken into account in modern conditions. The controversial and ambivalent attitude of contemporaries towards this process led to an increase in the sociocultural split of society.
